11/18/09 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 18. November 2009 18:10

One of the number one ways Jenny Craig recommended I lose weight at a faster speed was cardio.  It goes without saying that cardio activities require more work from the heart as it pumps blood out to various organs, your breathing increases, and you begin to sweat.  This helps strengthen both the lungs and heart and helps burn calories more quickly in a shorter period of time.  Exercise such as walking is considered a low-impact activity that slightly increases the heart rate.  High-impact activities are jumping or running.  They are higher intensity and significantly increase the heart rate.

On the website devoted towards exercise they provide some interesting information on the amount of calories burned during these cardio activities:

Step-aerobics: 340 cal

Stationary bike: 238 cal

Swimming: 270 cal

Walking 4mph: 170 cal

Running 5mph: 270 cal

Mowing the lawn with a push mower: 200 cal
